Apple Pie  
INGREDIENTS FOR FILLING

  • 1lb Cooking Apples
  • 8oz Blackberries
  • 3oz Sugar
  • 2oz Chopped Roast Hazelnuts

INGREDIENTS FOR PASTRY

  • 6oz Plain Flour
  • 3oz Butter
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 3-4 tbs Cool Water to mix

METHOD

  1. First make the pastry, sift flour and salt into a large bowl.
  2. Add butter, cut into flour with a knife and lightly rub in the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  3. Add a little cold water, mix with a knife until the dough is moist enough to form a ball.
  4. Cover and leave to rest in a cool place for at least an hour before rolling out on a floured board.
  5. Peel and slice the apples into the pie dish
  6. Add hazelnuts, blackberries and sugar.
  7. Gently mix a little with hands.
  8. Moisten the edge of the pie dish with water and lay the pastry over the top.
  9. Trim to size and decorate with pastry leaves.
  10. Brush with milk and make a hole to let the steam escape.
  11. Preheat the oven to 200ºC/400ºF (Gas mark 6) bake near the top of the oven for about 10 minutes then turn the heat down to 190ºC/375ºF (Gas mark 5) for about 30 minutes or more.
  12. Serve hot with cream.
